Opening in 2008, the first of it's kind, the Ron Jon Surf Park in Orlando will be making waves of excitement throughout the state and many surfers, from beginners to semi-pro, are lining up for a chance to see what this innovative new venue is all about.
Newcomers to the sport will start in the Training Pool, a playful area featuring three to four foot waves and 25 to 35 yard rides. Once you feel like you've mastered these waves, head over to the Big Pool where four to eight footers are the norm and intermediate to pro-level athletes ride for as long as 100 yards.
The Boogie Pool is the place to go for "those who want an instant taste of wave-riding experience.
If you're a little intimidated by all of the commotion and feel like you'd prefer a little guided instruction before you paddle out past the break for the first time, line up with others for the professionally taught lessons at Surf School. It doesn't matter if this is your first time or you are just looking for those few little tricks that make the difference between intermediate and pro, the Surf School is full of helpful hints for all skill levels.
If you're like most surfers, you've surely worked up an appetite by now. Head over to the on-site restaurant with tables affording great views of the surf and all the surfers as they challenge each wave. Grab a few items from the Surfpark Pro Shop for that official surf look, then hustle over so you don't miss any of the action going down at the Surfing Demo, an exhibition of talented surfers and all their tricks.
If you have the ambition, but not the board, fret not! Total equipment rentals are available at Ron Jon Surf Park.
