Description:

The Maitland Art Center was founded as an art colony, called the Research Studio, in 1938 by visionary American artist and architect Andre Smith. This tradition continues at MAC today, with gallery exhibitions, resident artists, a strong curriculum of art instruction in an intimate atmosphere and community programming.
As genius is never recognized in our midst, so it is with "cultural jewels." Such a gem is Maitland Art Center. Built by Jules Smith and Mary Zimbalist (artist and patron), Smith was a sculptor, architect, designer, and painter; namely one of the first to carve in wet cement.
This six-acre complex of galleries, courtyards, studios, 200 ornamental carvings, iconography, panels, Aztec birds, gates, screens, wrought iron adorn buildings, (1942) garden chapel, and monthly rotating exhibits is something everyone should witness.
Open Monday through Friday from 9am until 4:30pm and Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4:30pm.
